ON THEIR WAY
An equal mix of nervousness and excitement would make
sleeping on the 7 hour transatlantic flight difficult
for
the two 12 year olds as they flew through the night from
Philadelphia to Amsterdam on their way to a truly
unique training opportunity of a lifetime.

FIRST SESSION
AT GBA
The almost two hour drive from Amsterdam to Belgium
would put the
players in Antwerp just in time for team training at
Germinal-Beerschot
Antwerp, or GBA, a first division club in Belgium with
very close ties to
Ajax of Amsterdam, the Dutch Giant and world leader of
youth player
development.
The players were given the opportunity to train at GBA
and, despite
being awake for nearly 24 hours, were not about to give
up a chance to
see how they would match up against European players at
the 'youth
professional' level. Chris and Dylan were escorted to
the u13 locker room
where several players were changing for the session.
Although tired,
adrenaline kicked and the players impressed in their
first direct
experience with European soccer at the professional
level. The Belgian
trainer spoke excellent English and explained what he
wanted the
Americans to do.

DRIVE TO
MUNICH
Early the next morning the players, along with YPT
founder and director John Fisher and Dylan's mother
Marie, left on a 7+ hour drive south-west to Southern
Germany where they would train at both first division
professional clubs in Munich: Bayern Munich and 1860
Munich, before heading back to Belgium for
additional training at GBA.

BAYERN MUNICH vs BORUSSIA MOENCHEN-GLADBACH
On Saturday, after a good night sleep in Munich, the
players drove to
Sabener Strasse where Bayern Munich has its training
facility, to see
the u16 Bayern team play a league match.
After the youth match the players went with Bayern
Junior Team
trainer Sebastian Dremmler to the Olympic Stadium to see
Oliver
Kahn and Bayern's first team play
Borussia-Moenchengladbach. It
was a fantastic atmosphere at the stadium in the
Bavarian capital as
Bayern defeated their opponent 3-2. Following the match
Chris and
Dylan joined Sebastian and a few other Bayern academy
trainers for
dinner at a traditional Bavarian restaurant.
On Sunday Chris and Dylan were back at Sabener Strasse
to see
Bayern's u12 Junior Team destroy a local u13 club team
by the
score of 11-1. Even though their opponent were bigger,
the Bayern
players were better skilled and faster and through good
possession
and deadly through balls, the Bayern team scored easily
and often.
