Italian soccer
giants Inter Milan are to launch a football academy in
Abu Dhabi, ArabianBusiness.com can exclusively reveal.
The current Serie A champions are in final negotiations
with Hydra Properties to build a special academy in the
Hydra City development in the UAE capital, which also
includes the Golf Walk project.
Under the terms of the deal, it is believed that young
soccer players from all UAE clubs would have the chance
to enter the academy - and be sent to Inter Milan for
part of their training.
Inter Milan
superstars such as Patrick Vierra, Luís Figo and Zlatan
Ibrahimović are expected to make visits to the academy
as part of the training programme for UAE youngsters.
“We want to give the youngsters in the UAE a chance to
really shine on the world stage. Many of them are very
talented, but don’t have the right opportunities," Hydra
Properties CEO Sulaiman Al Fahim told
ArabianBusiness.com.
"With this academy, they will have the chance to go and
train with a club like Inter Milan. I hope than in a few
years time we can produce an international star from the
UAE, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world."
Hydra did not reveal the financial details of the deal
or when the academy might open.
Founded in 1908, Inter are one of the most successful
clubs in Italian footballing history having collected
fifteen Scudetti, five Coppa Italia, three Uefa cups and
two European cups throughout their long and illustrious
history. They are currently top of Serie A.
English football greats Manchester United have been
running an academy in Dubai since 2005.
