THE PRO SASSI TOURNAMENT

1
Selected players will depart the United States for Milan, Italy where they will be transferred to the amazing Lake Como region to prepare for the tournament. The team will train and travel to nearby Lugano, Switzerland for a friendly match against Lugano FC, of the Swiss first division. The team will visit Milan for sightseeing and a tour of Inter Milan FC and the incredible San Siro stadium, the home of both Inter  and AC Milan.

From there, the team will travel to Modena, 2 hours south of Milan, for the tournament where they will test themselves against some of the best youth players in Europe.

The focus of YPT’s European Tour Program has always been about training at a professional club and although playing friendly matches are an important part of every European Tour, it is not the main reason for going.

But when YPT, through its contacts in Europe, was invited to bring a team of players to participate in a professional youth tournament in Italy last year, the decision was made to raise the bar for some talented American players and pit them against some of Europe’s future stars in a purely competitive environment where the only goal is to win. These matches would be anything but ‘friendly’.

German Bundesliga, and FC Parma, of the Italian Serie A. YPT went into the tournament with nothing to lose. Even had they lost every game…the experience would have been invaluable and one that most American players would never have. YPT stunned the competition by upsetting FC Parma 1-0 and advancing out of their group. In the semi-finals, YPT bowed out to Coventry FC 0-2, of the English Premier League, who would eventually beat Bayern Munich in the final, also by a score of 2-0.

After showing extremely well in last years tournament, YPT has again been asked to send a u16 team to the Pro Sassi in 2008.

YPT is looking for 18 of the best u16 players it can find to travel to Italy over the Easter break in 2008 to compete in the Pro Sassi.
